Privacy Policy

Who we are
Pixel Peek is operated by [OPERATOR NAME], based in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. For any privacy questions or requests, email [CONTACT EMAIL].
What we collect
If you play as a guest
- Your game progress (current round, lives, score, streak) stored in your browser's
localStorage. This never leaves your device. - Basic connection logs on our servers (IP address, timestamp, browser user-agent) retained briefly by Cloudflare for abuse prevention and security.
If you claim a username
- The username you chose.
- A randomly-generated secret token, stored in your browser's
localStorage— it's how we confirm you own the name. We only store a hashed version of this token on our servers; the original is kept only by your browser. - Your daily scores and the dates you played.
- No email, no password, no phone number, no real name. We deliberately collect as little as possible.
If we serve ads (future)
Once we're approved for advertising, Google AdSense will set cookies to personalise ads and measure performance. Before any advertising tracking begins, you'll see a consent banner and be able to decline. This policy will be updated at that time.
Why we collect it
- To run the game. Scores and usernames are the entire point of the leaderboards.
- To prevent abuse. IP logging helps us stop bots, cheats, and attacks.
- To improve the site. Aggregate metrics help us fix issues and understand how the game is used.
Our legal basis under UK GDPR is legitimate interest for the above. When advertising launches, we'll rely on your consent for marketing cookies.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't share your username or scores with anyone (except on the public leaderboards within this site, obviously).
- We don't track you across other websites.
- We don't send you email — we can't, because we don't collect your email.
Third parties
A small number of third-party services see some data when you use the site:
- Cloudflare hosts the site and processes all web traffic. They see IP addresses and browser info, used for routing, caching, and DDoS protection. See their privacy policy.
- IGDB / Twitch — we fetch game titles and screenshots from IGDB. You don't interact with them directly; our servers do.
- Google AdSense (future) — once live, Google may collect browsing data to show personalised ads. You'll be asked to consent first.
International transfers: Cloudflare is a US-based company. UK/EU data transfers rely on the Standard Contractual Clauses they publish.
Data retention
- Guest data: stays in your browser until you clear it. We don't keep server-side copies.
- Claimed usernames and scores: retained for as long as the game operates or until you ask us to delete them.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Know what data we hold about you
- Get a copy of it
- Correct mistakes
- Have it deleted
- Restrict how we use it
- Object to how we use it
- Complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk)
To exercise any of these, email [CONTACT EMAIL] with your username. We'll respond within 30 days.
Children
Pixel Peek is intended for players aged 13 or over. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has shared data with us, please contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, the date at the top will change. Significant changes will be flagged on the home page before they take effect.
